 |
Paddles you use:
|
Epic Mid Wing |
How long have you been paddling?
|
Since 1993; first race was a month-long, 800 mile stage race from Chicago to NY |
Primary Paddling Location:
|
Jamaica Bay, NY |
Favorite Surfski Race, Why?
|
Tough one: Molokai -- because it's such a beautiful beast; Port Elizabeth to East London (4 day stage race up the Eastern Cape in SA) was stunning and so many more; the Maine Coast is perfect as is coastal Rhode Island by Beavertail Point... |
Main Training Partner if any:
|
Sylvie my 5 year old mutt but she mostly does wind sprints on terra firma. |
Racing Accomplishments
|
- Only 3-time finisher of the Chicago to New York Finlandia Clean Water Challenge
-
2 x winner of the Blackburn
-
5 time Molokai finisher (my best was 18th -- the flat year when 44 guys dropped out)
-
2nd at the 2007 Mayor's Cup
...but just rubbing elbows with the big boys at the World Cup events that I've done in Dubai, South Africa, Tahiti feels like an accomplishment.
|
| Other Significant Athletic Accomplishments: |
Was a mediocre Division III basketball player; cycled across America; paddled from Montana to Chicago, a 77-day solo jounrey via the Missouri, Mississippi and Illinois Rivers; have what is likely the ugliest athletic sandal collection on the Northeast. |
| What you like about surfskis, surfski racing, paddling: |
Paddlers are, in general, a great lot: i love the competition; talking smack with the boys; traveling to new neat locales; chasing big bumps down wind in warm water; and, most of all, eating a 1 lbs bag of Twizlers after a race. |
